Reading Challenge

This is my reading challenge.  This year, our class is doing a challenge where you have to read 20 different types of novels.
Will you try the challenge?

Explanation Writing

We have been learning about explanation writing.  We are currently reading a book called the Whale Rider so we decided to do an explanation about gender roles in Maori culture.  I thought that this was quite interesting.

it was really helpful reading some of the book before so we had an idea of what things to write.  I think my next step is to use bigger and more interesting words.

Identifying Bias

My Reflection: This is a activity about the word bias. What we did was we tried to identify a character called Koro Apirana being bias to another character called Kahu. I chose these parts as examples of bias because it shows Koro Apirana being grumpy with Kahu because of what she was doing - Kahu was only 3 and she just wanted Koro Apirana to show affection.  The chapter was from a book we are reading called the Whale Rider.

I thought that this activity was very tricky, seeing as I do not know too much about the word bias.  It is a small word, but it has lots of meanings.

Cryptarithms

My Reflection: This is my Cryptarithms overview. It is a form of maths.   Cryptarithms are very tricky because you have to identify the value of all the letters.  Next time I do them,  I will try every single number until it makes sense.

Kennings Poem

This is my Kennings Poem.  A kenning poem is a poem where there are 2 letters per line.  I could not fit 2 per line so the second word is under the first one.  In a Kennings poem,  each line is something describing yourself.

Peer Mediation Video

This is my Peer Mediation Video.  Lately, we have been learning to be a Peer Mediator.  We have done this to test what we have learnt.  I am not going to be a peer mediator this year, but it is still important to practice in case there is not Mediator around.

Term 1 Week 5

Term 1 Week 5 in Year 6

Our Classroom has been very busy over the last 5 weeks at school.
One of the things we have been doing is called Youthtown.
Youthtown is a group of people who come around to our school and play sports with us.
My favourite game I have learnt so far is Capture the Flag.

Another thing I have enjoyed this term so far is something called Cryptarithms.  Cryptarithms is a maths problem.  What you have to do is you have to work out the value of the letters.  For example:

BB + A = ACC  (99 + 1 = 100)

Cryptarithms are really hard.

Another thing we have started doing this term is enlarging with a grid.  What we had to do is draw a grid on a picture of us.  Then we started drawing patterns on squares on a bigger piece of paper.  At some point we will finish with a drawing looking something like this:

But with Patterns EVERYWHERE.

Another thing I have enjoyed doing is Making my Whale Rider Venn diagram.  What we had to do is compare 2 characters from the story (Koro Apirana and Nanny Flowers) to yourself.  I enjoyed doing it.

I have enjoyed these last few weeks at school more than last year.

Statistical Investigation

This is my Graph that I made using Google spreadsheet.  First what we did was making a Google form (quiz).  I did my quiz about cricket.  Then we sent it to the class.  Then everyone in the class answered the form.  After that the responses were put into a Google spreadsheet, and made a graph out of it.
This information shows that people in our class like batting more than bowling and fielding.  My next question will be:  Why does our class like batting so much?
