Biospheres

This is a Biosphere diorama that me and my group made.  It has everything needed:  Water purifiers, a farm, lounge and bedrooms, a school, a kitchen and toilets.  It took a while to make, but it looks decent.

Narrative Plan

This is my narrative plan.  I had to get all of this info through reading the book that we were doing our narrative on (we had to do it on a section of the book), Between 2 Ends.  I thought my Narrative, in the end, was quite good.  The first column explains the setting of the narrative, the second column explains the main character of the actual story (Yeats) and the main character of my narrative (Shahrazad).

Pirate Ship Net Constuction

This is a Pirate ship that me and a small group made. We made it by making 3-D shapes and using glue to stick them together.  I think that it looks really cool.  We used clicko to make the shapes and then we took it apart and copied the net onto paper.  then we cut the nets out, made them into their shape and stuck them together.  It took a while, but it looked cool in the end.

Diary Post T4 W6

We have been doing a lot of interesting things in the last 5 weeks.  Here are some of them.

Last Week (Week 5 of Term 4),  it was our student teacher´s last day.  She was quite sad.  :(

We finished our exciting book that we have been reading as a class - Between Two Ends. It had lots of adventuring in it.  It is a really good book. It is about Someone called Yeats who goes into a book called 1001 Arabian Knights to rescue someone who has got stuck in the story.

We also made pirate ships and treasure chests out of 3-D shapes.  We used paper and glue to make them.  They looked cool.

We also did swimming last week.  We played netball in the pool!  It was really enjoyable. Our team won.

As you can see, our class has been doing some cool things lately.

Narrative - Between two Ends

This is my narrative.  I had to do it on  a section of a book, Between 2 Ends, from a character´s perspective that wasn't the main character´s perspective.  I enjoyed writing this.  I have called my story Midnight Plan.

Diary Post Term 4 Week 1

Our class has been doing some interesting things in the first week back to school.

We have been doing something called a ballad, which is sort of like a poem mixed with a story, as it tells a story but it rhymes and there are 4 lines in each stanza, or paragraph.

The other thing we have been doing is Paper Mache. We are making the solar system out of Paper Mache.

We have also started a new novel in our class, called Between Two Ends.  So far, it is about a boy name Yeats going to Gran's house with his parents and in the part we have just read he found 2 talking pirate bookends.  These bookends also move.

So these are the interesting things that we have done this week.

Ballad - Cricket

This is the ballad that I did.  This ballad is about cricket.
A ballad is sort of like a poem and a story mixed together, as it tells a story but at the same time, it rhymes and has stanzas (or paragraphs) with 4 lines in them.   It was quite difficult to think of rhyming - that´s why some lines sound a bit weird.  I learnt a lot about ballads.  I enjoyed writing this Ballad as I love cricket - that is why I made the subject is cricket. Hopefully this is joyful to read. Enjoy!

Show Don´t tell Camp MERC Recount

We are learning to use the show don´t tell way of writing.  Show don´t tell is where you make your audience do some thinking by not saying a feeling but saying something that the feeling causes.
For example: Instead of ¨I´m scared¨ it is ¨My legs where wobbling.¨
I have Highlighted parts where this way of writing has been used.  This way of writing was quite difficult.
We wrote about an activity at camp - I chose Slingshot.
I enjoyed writing this recount.  If I ever do something like this again, I would like to add in more show don´t tell parts - I
don´t think I did very many.

Imformation Report

This is a slideshow about marine life issues. We were learning about the issues to marine life.  Our group then showed it to the class for feedback to improve.  So we improved it, and here it is.  We also did this to learn about information reports.

Pakuranga Intermediate Trip

Yesterday the year sixes went to visit Pakuranga intermediate. We
went there because we went to see what intermediate would look like.  A lot of other schools were there too.  Our school is called Elm Park school, if you didn't know that.
When we came, we were greeted in the school hall.

Then we did a french class.  We learnt what some animals were in french.  I remember one - un chat - a cat.
We did a art class after that. We made these sort of jellyfish things.  Making them included spray paint and a hot glue gun, but the teacher used them, so we couldn't put it on ourselves.

Then we went back to the hall - were we started.  They had a talk to us about what we could expect.  They also told us about the different courts that they have.  I don't know why they did that, but they did.

Then we went back to school.
Intermediate is definitely different than our school, as they have specialist classes (The ones that we went to) and we have nothing like that at all.  I thought our trip was interesting.

Prediction - own Choice Novel

This is the novel I chose for this activity - Glory in the Cup - a cricket novel.  I play cricket and I have read other books in the series.  That is why I chose this book.

Prediction - A Wrinkle in Time

This is a prediction for a book that we are reading in class called A Wrinkle in Time.  It is a good book.

Speech - The Benefits of Self Driving Cars

This is my speech for 2016 - the Benefits of Self Driving Cars.  I hope you enjoy my speech.

Diary Post T3 W1

We have been doing a lot of things this week.
Here is some of them:

On Wednesday we had our first session of bike skills this term.  We learnt how to check that all of our equipment is put on properly and then we did some riding.  After we were warmed up, we played a game where we could not put our feet on the ground or we were out.  They made it harder by making our riding area smaller and changing the direction everyone was riding in.  And believe me, that got a bit difficult as people kept stopping and putting their feet on the ground because there would be someone in their turning circle.  I did not do very good at this game.

This week we have started a new way of doing our SDL (Self-Directed Learning).  The way we do it now is through Hapara student dashboard.
This new way is really cool because the teacher can make it so that you can only get tasks at certain times, and you have a time limit in which you can complete it in. The teacher can monitor us with her account.
I think the new way is cool.

Yesterday (It is currently Friday) we started our Cross Country training.  At some point this term we will do the real thing and the top 7 boys and girls (They are separate) from each year level go to the Inter-School Cross Country to compete against other schools.  I made it through in Year 4 but not Year 5 because we were in Oamaru.  I thought Inter-School in Year 4 was a bit boring, but oh well.

The first week of this term has been rather busy.  We have been told that this term is going to be very busy, so expect more!

Multiplication Strategies

This is my Multiplication strategies slideshow.  It lists 5 different strategies for multiplication.  I enjoyed making it.
