Diary Post T2W8

In the last 2 weeks we have not been very busy, but here is some of the stuff that we have started/done:

At the start of this week we have started reading a book in our class called

The Green Book.  It is about a group of people fleeing earth, as the earth was perishing.  A group of people went on a 4 year trip on a spaceship to another planet, With very little belongings.  Here are the things they were able to take:
-1 book only
-1 or 2 personal items only
The ship they were on had many other supplies though, like food and fuel.  They went there in hope of survival and colonisation.

Our class also started our speech planning templates and our speeches this week.  I have finished my template but I have not done my speech, mainly because I can´t think of a topic for it!

Soon, we are going to make a paper maché solar system.  the distances are going to be to scale, just so you know.  we measured the distances with the toilet paper activity.  We measured how many pieces of toilet paper there are between the planets (to scale).  I don´t know when we are going to make it, but I do know that I am making Mercury with my friend Gabriel.

These last 2 weeks have been quite interesting.

Last term we (Me and my friend George) made an advertisement about laser strike.  I have uploaded this now because we had problems with it before.  We did this because we were learning about persuasive techniques.  Making an advertisement is a good idea to learn about them.  I enjoyed making this advertisement, but it  was very challenging, as we had many problems with recording and saving the recording and other things.  It was a very long process, but we managed it in the end.  I hope you enjoy!

Diary Post T2 W7

We have been doing a lot in the past few weeks. Here is some of the learning that we have done:

Last week we had a Matariki assembly and a group of trainee teachers came to the assembly.  The trainee teachers re-modernised the story The Seven Sisters of Matariki through a play.  It was really funny and enjoyable.

Also, A couple of weeks ago we started doing something called SDL, or Self-Directed Learning.  What we do for SDL is the teacher gives us a google presentation with a load of tasks on it and we would do those tasks over the course of the week.  It is a good way of learning skills you wouldn´t normally be taught through lessons on the mat, like typing.

The netball field day was on a while ago, and my friend Gabriel broke his wrist!  I didn´t go so I only knew this 2 days later.

These few weeks have been very eventful exiting for me.

Diary Post T2 W2

At the start of term 2, we have done a lot of things.  These are some of the things we have done.

For our Inquiry launch (last week), we watched the movie Wall-E.  Our focus for inquiry this year is space, and we watched that movie because then we were learning about what would happen if the earth became un-inhabitable, and the Wall-E movie gave us some ideas.

Also, today 1 of our school netball teams had a netball game.  I am not in a netball team, if you were wondering.  Apparently they won
12-2!

Grid Value Portrait

Last term, we were doing a type of art called a grid value portrait.  A grid value portrait is a picture or photo enlarged using a grid.
Everyone in our class enlarged a picture of themselves.

Our pictures were in black and white, so in our enlargement the light parts were light and the dark parts were dark. In each square there needs to be a pattern.  For a dark square, the pattern needs to be close together to make it look dark.  For a light square, the pattern needs to be far apart.  The squares help position your eyes and other things.  This is why it is called a grid value Portrait.

I thought that one of the trickiest parts was to make the nose and the eyes.  What I like the most about my portrait was the light squares because they were much easier than the dark squares.  The light squares were also much shorter to make.

Making the portraits took a long time but I enjoyed making them.
